Murder by the Barrel by Lesley Cookman - #review #giveaway

A new title in the popular cosy crime series by bestselling author Lesley Cookman

When the sleepy village of Steeple Martin announces its first beer festival, the locals are excited. Beer, sun and music, what could possibly go wrong?

But when an unexpected death shakes the village, it’s up to Libby Sarjeant to solve the puzzle.

Was it just another rock star death or is there something more sinister afoot?

MY REVIEW

This is the 18th installment of the Libby Sarjeant Murder Mysteries!  Think about that for a moment.  E.I.G.H.T.E.E.N!  That says something right off the bat - about the quality of the characters and the story (and, coincidentally, the author).  I've read the 16th installment, Murder Dancing, as well and enjoyed it immensely also!

Many thanks again to Ms. Cookman for giving a 'cast list' of characters at the beginning of the story.  This is especially helpful to us 'weekenders' (have as yet read only part of the series) keep track of who's who without having to turn back and forth in the book.  And I swear my feet did a little happy dance under the desk when I saw the map of Steeple Martin at the beginning as well.

This time Steeple Martin is hosting a Beer Festival, complete with flowing beers and ales, multiple rock-style bands .... and, unfortunately, a dead body.  The crime is doubly straining this time because the murdered person is part of a band comprised of friends of Libby's sons, Adam and Dominic.  What concerns our children (no matter their age) is what concerns us, their mothers (no matter our age)

Not only is "Murder by the Barrel" a superb mystery in and of itself, this installment is a wonderful addition to the Libby Sarjeant universe. ;)  Libby as grown as a character even from Murder Dancing until now.  She's definitely someone you would want in your corner (as part of your support) if the chips were down.  And Lesley Cookman is one author you would definitely want on your shelf (ok, or in your hands)!
